This week, Reception have been continuing to write in their Bean Diaries and we are now starting to see some shoots appear from the seeds we planted over the last few weeks. Science has focused on our topic of growth and thinking about ideal conditions for growth and we have also been experimenting with a range of different materials to try and build a tall beanstalk. The children have had great fun trying to construct tall structures with sugar cubes, jelly cubes, jelly babies, cocktail sticks and elastic bands. We thought carefully about the different properties of these materials and thought about what would happen if it our newly-constructed beanstalks got wet!
During Maths, we have been practising counting in 1s, 2s, 5s and 10s. We have also looked at capacity, vocabulary related to time and 2d shapes. Next week, we will be focusing on 3d shapes and their properties.
Please remember that School will be closed local elections on Thursday 3rd May and for Bank Holiday Monday on the 7th of May.
Your child has recently brought home a letter regarding their choice of food for our very special Royal Wedding bbq on Friday 18th. Please return your slips asap to allow catering arrangements to be finalised. We are asking children to come dressed in red, white and blue clothing for this special celebratory day! More details will follow!
Homework – Please continue with the sentence writing practise sheets, which can be found in your child’s Homework folder. Reading and Reading Challenge will continue as normal. If your child would like to, they may have a 2d or 3d shape hunt around their home and report back on their findings!
