Year 2 D&T project with BCU

Over the past month, year 2 have been working with Design Technology students from Birmingham City University on a project, linked to our forthcoming history topic of World War 2. Through a variety of creative and practical activities, the pupils were taught the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to engage in the process of designing and making their own vehicle.

The began by perfecting their skills using different tools, then designing a vehicle to meet the criteria as decided following their research of war vehicles. The children learnt about the different elements of the engineering, examining the chassis, axles and wheels. They showed great resilience overcoming design issues. They really enjoyed using the saws! Once made they tested their vehicles and evaluated them against their design criteria. I’m sure you will agree they have made a super job and hopefully we will have inspired some engineers of the future. Our thanks to Neil Dickson of BCU and the students who accompanied him.
