Reception have had another very busy week!
We have continued to learn our Talk for Writing story Stuck in the Mud in Literacy. The children are doing a fantastic job at remembering the actions to aide our story telling skills. We have moved on to new sounds in Phonics, focusing on c, k, e, h. We have also recapped our previously learned sounds through a ‘sound hunt’ in the outdoor area.
Our rhyme of the week has been ‘Miss Polly Had a Dolly’ – it has been lovely to see the children’s confidence grow when singing together as a whole class.
In Maths Mastery, we have been focusing on the number 4. We watched the story of Pete the Cat and his Four Groovy Buttons, as well as being introduced to a new Numberling from Numberblocks. We have practised the numeral 4, represented the number 4 in different ways and and explored the different ways we can ‘make’ 4 through addition. We also had a go at icing a biscuit to represent Pete the Cat’s shirt and carefully placing 4 groovy buttons, just like in the story.
Next week, we will continue work on our Talk for Writing text ‘Stuck in the Mud’, focusing particularly on how the story is structured. We will be introducing the number 5 in Maths Mastery. The rhyme of the week will be 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, Once I Caught a Fish Alive.
Homework: your child will be bringing their homework folder home on Wednesday containing Jolly Phonics work to reinforce our work on c, k, e, h. Please ensure this is returned for the following Monday. Also, your child could explore the different ways of making 4 in the environment, through collecting 4 objects and partitioning them in different ways!
Tricky words for this week: to, do, of – please use the tricky word bag to practise these words. The words will be updated this Friday.
