This week in Reception, we found hats scattered around our classrooms and monkeys swinging from the peg lines! What a sight it was! We made lots of predictions about what may have happened over the weekend… In the end, it transpired it was all linked to our NEW Talk for Writing story Monkey See, Monkey Do! This week we will be learning the new story, making our own ‘fancy hats’ (just like the hat maker), exploring rhyming words and learning our new ambitious vocabulary!
We will continue practising our tricky words, through finding them printed on scattered hats in the outdoor area. In Phonics, we will be focusing on g, o and u. Our rhyme of the week is ‘Three Blind Mice’.
In Maths Mastery, we will be consolidating our knowledge on numbers 1 to 5 through a range of activities, including: identifying the ‘odd one out’ when looking at different representations of numbers; further developing our subitising skills using big dice outside; and working together to put ourselves into number groups!
Homework: your child will be bringing their homework folder home on Wednesday containing Jolly Phonics work to reinforce our work on g, o, u. Please ensure this is returned for the first day back after the half term holiday (Tuesday 6th November).
We will also be sending home a copy of our Talk for Writing story Monkey See, Monkey Do. Please read the story to your child and encourage them to teach you the actions!
For Maths, challenge your child to make a Numberling (1-5) from the Numberblocks! You can use anything you like – e.g., blocks, paints, crayons or junk materials – be as creative as you wish! We would love to see your creations!
Tricky words for this week: come, some, said – please use the tricky word bag to practise these words. The words will be updated again this Friday. Please continue to practise all of our tricky words over the half term holiday.
