Our first week back after our half term holiday has been so much fun! We started off with learning all about Diwali and fully immersing ourselves into Indian culture on our very special Diwali Day!
We learned the story of Rama and Sita and about the different ways people prepare for and celebrate Diwali. We had a go at bhangra dancing; experienced Indian cuisine through food tasting; wrote our own Diwali cards for people who are special to us; and decorated our clay divas. We then made glittery firework art – inspired by both Diwali and bonfire night!
On Friday, as part of a Trust-wide activity day, we will be discussing the ways we can help ourselves at home and in class. We will also be commemorating the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day through poppy making.
We have continued practising our tricky words and learning our new sounds l, f and b in phonics. Our rhyme of the week has been ‘Hickory Dickory Dock’.
Homework: your child will be bringing their homework folder home on Wednesday containing Jolly Phonics work to reinforce our work on l, f, b. Please ensure this is returned on Monday.
Tricky words for this week: they, there, here – please use the tricky word bag to practise these words. The words will be updated again this Friday. Thank you for all of your hard work at home in practising these – we can really see your efforts paying off in school.
