YR Week Beginning 4.11.19

Welcome back!  We hope you all had a restful half term break!  Thank you and a very big well done to all who completed our half term homework challenge – your wonderful Numberling creations have really brightened up our YR classrooms!

This week in Reception, we will be thinking about rhyming words, using the story Oi Frog!

In Phonics, we will be learning three new sound:  h, b, f, ff.   We will be applying our new skill of blending when reading CVC words and captions as we continue on our journey to fluent reading, and having a go at segmenting!   We will also be training our brains to read high frequency words:  off, of, back, if.

Our rhyme of the week will be: Hickory Dickory Dock.

In Maths Mastery, we will be consolidating our learning on numbers 1 to 5.  We will also be fine tuning our skill of accurate counting and thinking about subitising, too!

Please remember to check your child’s homework folder on Wednesday and return it again on Monday!

Each week, or for each topic, in Reception we will be learning new ambitious vocabulary to expand our bank of words!  We will be encouraging children to use this vocabulary in their speech to build their confidence and competency when discussing their knowledge and learning – please encourage and practise this at home!

Literacy vocabulary:

rhyming words – words which end in an identical sound to another

Maths vocabulary:

subitising – to recognise the number of objects in a small group without counting them

representation – something that stands for or shows something
