YR Week Beginning 2.12.19

Christmas has arrived in Reception!  We have Santa’s Grotto, a winter woodland area, Antarctic small world and the North Pole small world too!  The children will be working on their fine motor skills when wrapping presents and writing cards to their friends.

In Phonics, we will be learning three new sound:  qu, sh, and ch and four new common exception words: was, me, my and we.  We will also be learning about those 5 special letters in our alphabet – the vowels – through a new song.

Our rhyme of the week will be: Little Miss Muffet.

In Maths Mastery, we will be meeting a new Numberling in the Numberblocks – 7!  We will be thinking carefully abut the composition of 7 and representing 7 in different ways.

Please note that all reading books will be collected in on Monday 9th December ahead of the Christmas break.  Please ensure that your child’s reading folder, reading record and book are in their bags for Monday.  Thank you for your continued support.

Each week, or for each topic, in Reception we will be learning new ambitious vocabulary to expand our bank of words!  We will be encouraging children to use this vocabulary in their speech to build their confidence and competency when discussing their knowledge and learning – please encourage and practise this at home!

Literacy vocabulary:

persuade – to get someone to believe something by giving them a good reason to do it

e.g., Sophia persuaded Santa to give her lots of presents by telling him of all of the good things she had done this year

Maths vocabulary:

subitising – to recognise a number of objects in a small group without counting them
