Year 1 homework – 3rd September

Welcome back! We hope you all had a restful and refreshing summer holiday.

The routine for homework is as follows:

Spellings – Handed out on Monday and tested on the following Monday. The first set of spellings will be handed out next week. These spellings can also be found on the school website by clicking on Pupils -> Spellings -> Year 1.

Reading – Reading books are swapped on a Tuesday and a Thursday. We have sent home your child’s first reading book and this should be read over the weekend. Details about any targets we set will always be recorded in your child’s reading record.

Maths/Literacy – We will be handing out a maths or literacy worksheet every week from next half term once the children are fully settled into the routine of Year 1.

P.E. – The children will be taught one hour of P.E. every Tuesday. The children should come to school wearing their coloured P.E. shirt, tracksuit bottoms and their normal school jumper/cardigan.

On Friday the children will be bringing home a target pack to make you aware of the expectations for Year 1. As part of this pack, the children will be given a Reading Challenge booklet. This is to encourage the children to read widely at home. Once they have read a book beginning with each letter of the alphabet, the children will earn a reading challenge badge and entry into an end of year prize draw. Reading Challenge books will be changed every Friday and so the children should return their book to school if they wish to bring a new book home.

Finally, please could we also ask you not to put water bottles in book bags to avoid any damage to reading books.

Thank you for your support – we look forward to a great year!

Mr Storer and Mrs Johnston
