Welcome back to the last term at Little Sutton Primary School for this academic year. We hope you enjoyed the Easter holiday.
These curriculum notes are intended to give you an idea of the topics your child will be studying during the Summer term.
We hope that these notes will enable you to support your child with the work they are carrying out at school by providing them with opportunities to extend their knowledge of the subjects. We would also appreciate you supporting them to complete homework to a high standard and return it on time as well as ensuring they have all the equipment they will need.
Below is an overview of all the subjects and topics your child will be covering in the Summer term.
Multiplication and Division
Number: four operations
Phonics and spellings – alternative spellings for phonemes, revision of phase 5 sounds.
Fiction – Tradition Tales (Cinderella), Finding Nemo (visual literacy), character descriptions, Peace At Last and We Found a Hat story writing.
SPaG – revision of capital letters and full stops, question marks, plural endings.
Animals including humans: basic animal types, herbivores, carnivores, omnivores.
Animals of Australia, basic structure of animals and humans.
Comparing Sydney, Australia to Sutton Coldfield.
Map work – locating the 4 countries of the UK
Animal art Colour mixing Collage
Singing songs from memory Exploring pitch Sea Shanties
Performing short musical patterns by ear Body percussion
Contemplation – Being curious & valuing knowledge; Being open honest & truthful
Commitment – Remembering roots; Being hopeful & visionary
PE – Tuesday & Thursday
Games Skills Passing, throwing, catching Co-ordination with bat/ball, football
Reading three times a week. Reading will take place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Spellings will be given out on a Monday and tested the following week, these can be checked online via the school website.
Homework will be distributed every Friday.
Please ensure that inhalers and/or relevant medicines are in school and in date.
Please remember to send all drinks separate from books to avoid spillage damage to school reading books – only water to be allowed in class please.
If your child is to be collected by someone other than yourself or the named contact persons please let the school know. Please check that all of your child’s PE kit is named, that pumps are the correct size and that you renew the labelling on any clothing where it may have faded due to washing.
A reminder that children should not be bringing toys to school.
On a Monday afternoon, while the Y1 staff use time for planning, preparation and assessment, the children will enjoy one hour of Art and one hour of Dance.
