Curriculum Plan Reception Autumn 2019

Dear Parents,

Welcome to Little Sutton Primary School. We hope you enjoyed the summer holidays and we look forward to working with you and your child this year.

These curriculum notes are intended to give you an idea of the topics your child will be studying during the Autumn term. We have also written a reminder with regards to dinner money, medication and equipment needed in school. Details with regards to homework are also included.

We hope that these notes will enable you to support your child with the work they are carrying out at school by providing them with opportunities to extend their knowledge of the subjects. We would also appreciate you supporting them to complete homework to a high standard and return it on time as well as ensuring they have all the equipment they will need.

Below is an overview of all the subjects and topics your child will be covering in the Autumn term.

Communication, Language and Literacy

Simple book terms, listening skills, making predictions using clues Introduction to guided reading, Talk for Writing and reading challenge Recognising single letter phonemes & digraphs in initial, medial & final position (Using Jolly Phonics for single letter sounds and then Letters and Sounds) Effective pencil grip, pencil control, writing names and accurate letter formation

Mathematical Development

Counting and numeral recognition, counting one to one, subitising Composition of numbers 1 – 20, using Numberblocks and a Mastery approach Simple addition and subtraction more / less Shape recognition 2D and 3D, sequencing patterns Making comparisons bigger / shorter / longer / full / empty

Creative Development –All about me and you

Portraits Exploring different mediums and textures Learning simple songs Simple structures – shelters connected to Sukkot Christmas crafts

Knowledge and Understanding of the World

Ourselves – parts of the body, food & growth, keeping healthy The five senses Tasting foods and simple cookery My family past and present – sequencing, comparing routines Use of classroom based technology Autumn and Winter

Physical Development Dressing skills

Using scissors and other tools correctly and safely
Using large & small apparatus Recognising the importance of keeping healthy and the changes that happen to their bodies when active To move with confidence and imagination in a variety of ways

Equipment required

PE kit in bag – everything labelled please Water bottles, Book bags containing reading folder every day

Homework

To read and discuss reading books, including Reading Challenge books To complete homework activity sent out in Homework folder on a weekly basis

Dinner /Trip money etc.

Dinners for Reception children are available free under the Government’s Universal Infants Free School Meals initiative. Payment for trips etc. should be made through ParentPay wherever possible, please see the office for more information about ParentPay. If you do not have access to ParentPay please send correct amount by cheque or cash in a named envelope. 

Medication

Please ensure that inhalers and/or relevant medicines are in school and in date.

Class information

On a Monday afternoon while the Reception staff use time for planning, preparation and assessment the children will enjoy one hour of Dance and one hour of Creative Activities.
