This week in YR, we will be continuing our work on ‘Journey’ by Aaron Becker. The children absolutely loved this picture book last week and so we are very much looking forward to working with it again this week.
We will be carrying out some ‘Hot Seating’ activities and will be using our phonic knowledge to write speech bubbles for the main character in the story. We will be thinking carefully about segmenting words to write them down (especially polysyllabic words), letter formation and basic punctuation.
During our Maths Mastery sessions, we will be learning all about ‘Taking Away’, using the ‘Reduction Method’. We will be using maths stories including the vocabulary ‘First, Then and Now’. For example, First Katy had 6 sweets, Then she ate 4 of them, Now she has 2 sweets left. We will also continue to think about doubling numbers up to 20.
Reading sessions will continue as normal this week and so it is very important that your child has their Reading Folder, Book and Reading Diary with them every day. Reading Challenge books will be changed on Friday and your child will receive new words for their word tub. Homework Folders will be sent out containing this week’s Homework on Wednesday. Please return them by next Monday.
Our Rhyme of the Week is: Five Little Speckled Frogs (Linked to our Maths Mastery)
On Friday (19th) it will be Red Nose Day (Comic Relief), this year we are inviting the children to come to school in non-uniform, wearing a ‘splash of red’ and bringing in a donation of £1 for this worthwhile cause. YR will all still be taking part in PE activities so please ensure your child will be comfortable and is wearing appropriate footwear.
Many thanks for your continued support,
The Reception Team
