YR were very excited to begin work on our new story ‘Dear Zoo’ by Rod Campbell this morning. We began by reading and discussing the story and then we thought about actions to go with a story map.
Work on this book will continue until we break up for Easter and we will be doing lots of activities based around the story, including creating and labelling zoos, writing descriptive sentences about different zoo animals, using large scale construction to build animal enclosures in our outside area, creating posters for escaped animals and labelling zoo animals in our Tuff Tray.
In phonics this week, we are continuing work on polysyllabic words – both reading and writing them! Our Rhyme of the Week is ‘Old Noah’s Ark’.
During Maths Mastery, we will be watching a new Numberblocks episode, ‘Blast Off!’ and learning all about counting backwards from 10-0 and 20-0 and we will also be thinking about how we can partition 10 e.g. 9 and 1, 8 and 2 etc.
This week sees the beginning of our new ‘Playgrounds’ topic and we will also be learning all about the Easter story and symbols of Easter.
Please look out for your child’s homework folder on Wednesday with a Literacy activity to be completed and returned by next Monday. Your child will need their reading folder and contents every day this week. Reading Challenge books will be changed on Friday and new words given out for your child’s word tub. Please continue to practise these with your child as often as possible.
Many thanks for your continued support,
The Reception Team
