YR are now in the middle of a two week unit based on John Burningham’s ‘Mr Gumpy’s Outing’. The children are really enjoying the story and are doing well with list writing for their Literacy work. We are having a focus on accurate pencil grip and letter formation and all of the children are trying really hard to position their letters on the lines too! The children are enjoying acting out the story in the Small World and also on our stage area in the Outside Classroom! They have been experimenting with making different boats for Mr Gumpy and have also been using their phonic knowledge to write labels for items at his tea party.
During our Maths Mastery sessions, we are focusing on a variety of objectives linked to the Number Early Learning Goal. The children are practising counting, recognising and ordering numbers up to at least 20, identifying numbers that are one more or one less than a given number and thinking about addition (especially number bonds for 10) and subtraction. They are proving to be great and confident mathematicians!
We continue our topics on The Wide World, Holidays: Past and Present and Growing. The children have been learning the names of different parts of a plant and have been planting a variety of different seeds and bulbs.
Our Rhyme of the Week is: There was a Crooked Man
Maths homework will be sent home in Homework Folders on Wednesday this week and is to be handed back in next Monday please. Please ensure that your child has their Reading Folder and contents everyday as our reading sessions continue. Reading Challenge books will be changed on Friday and new words added to your child’s word tub. Please continue to practise the new and previous words as often as possible.
Many thanks for your continued support.
