We hope that you all had a lovely holiday and enjoyed the sunshine over half term! The children were very excited to be back this morning and we loved hearing about all of the adventures that they had been on and the fun things they had done with family and friends!
This week, we will be beginning work on our new text ‘Rosie’s Walk’ by Pat Hutchins. We will be learning the story and some accompanying actions ready for starting our Talk for Writing unit next week. We will be thinking all about time connectives, for example, first, then, after that.
In Maths Mastery, we will be learning all about the two-digit numbers 11 to 19 and playing Bingo! We will be thinking about how these numbers can be broken down (partitioned) in to a finished ‘ten’ and some ones e.g. 13 is one finished ten and three ones. We will be learning all about ‘place value’ through these numbers and activities.
This morning, we took delivery of ten eggs and an incubator. Over the next two weeks, the children will observe the hatching of the chicks and then how they grow and develop during the early days of life. The children (and staff!!) are very excited…or should that be ‘egg-cited!’? We hope to have a live camera stream up and running soon and will let you know the details when we have them! It would be lovely for the children to watch their development from home too!
We will also be learning ‘I have a little nut tree’ as our Rhyme of the Week and we will be thinking about ‘Forgiving’ and ‘Journeys’ too.
Homework will be sent home on Wednesday, to be returned the following Monday and it is still important that Reading Folders are sent in on a daily basis. Reading Challenge books will be changed on Friday.
Due to the lovely weather we are experiencing at the moment, children are welcome to bring in their own labelled sun-cream which they will need to apply themselves (as per School policy). Please practise this at home, if necessary! Please also ensure that your child has a labelled sun hat and water bottle in school at all times.
We can’t believe that we are in to the last half term already and that the children are so close to joining Year One!
Many thanks for your continued support,
The Reception Team
