This week in YR, we will be continuing to look at the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar by the late Eric Carle. The children are absolutely loving the book and have begun to write their imitations of the story this week. They are being encouraged to use a range of ambitious vocabulary and time connectives in their writing.
The story links perfectly with our current work on Lifecycles and the children were very excited to find that our class caterpillars had made their chrysalises over the weekend. They are really looking forward to their metamorphosis and emergence as beautiful butterflies in the very near future. We will be releasing our butterflies as soon as possible and then celebrating with a Hungry Caterpillar Themed party on Friday 16th July – please look out for a letter about this later in the week!
We are very much looking forward to welcoming current YR parents into school on the afternoon of the 8th July 2:00-3:15pm (weather permitting!) for our Reception activity and presentation afternoon. The children are already very excited about the event. Many thanks for the replies you have sent in so far, please return your slip if you have not already done so. It should be a lovely afternoon.
This week will be the last week for Guided Reading books being sent home as we will begin to collect these in, complete with reading folders and diaries, next week. On Friday of this week, we will be collecting in Reading Challenge passports and also Reading Challenge books – so please ensure these are in school on Friday.
Many thanks for your continued support,
The Reception Team
