This week in YR, we will be continuing our work on rhyming words. We will be exploring more brilliant texts by Kes Gray and Jim Field. We will be playing around with rhyme and thinking about rhyming strings. We will continue to use our ever expanding phonic knowledge to write them down. We will be thinking very carefully about correct pencil grip and accurate letter formation.
During our Maths Mastery sessions, we will thinking again about subitising and different representations of smaller quantities. We will also be counting sounds and other things that you can not physically see and move! The children are really growing in confidence with explaining what they can see and how they see it during our Maths sessions. Well done, YR!
In Phonics, we will be introducing the sounds /z/zz/qu/ch/ and thinking all about words ending in ‘s’. We will be learning the tricky words ‘go, no, to’ and ‘into’. These will go into your child’s word tub at the end of the week – please practise these at home! In addition, we will be applying our phonic knowledge to decode simple captions and sentences.
Our Rhyme of the Week will be Baa Black Sheep. Again, please practise this at home with your child.
Homework will be sent out, as usual on Wednesday to be returned the following Monday. We will continue our reading practise sessions, so please ensure your child has their reading folder with them on a daily basis. Reading challenge books will be changed on Friday.
Please check your child’s bag on a daily basis for any letters and information.
Many thanks for your continued support and please do not hesitate to contact us with any queries,
The Reception Team
