YR Update Week Beginning 13.6.2022

Reception are enjoying the second week of their work on The Gingerbread Man. We are continuing to look at similarities and differences between different versions of this traditional tale. The children will be using their phonic knowledge to write speech bubbles for a variety of characters from the text, designing and labelling their own gingerbread people and retelling the story using small world props. We will be thinking about the ambitious vocabulary ‘scurry, screech and cunning’.

During our Phonics sessions, we will be learning all about cccvc words and using our knowledge to-date to read and write words and sentences.

During our maths work, we will be introducing the children to using the rekenreks and thinking about using this piece of apparatus to further develop our subitising and composition skills. We will also be thinking about more than and fewer than.

This week, we will begin our Life-cycles topic for Understanding the World. We will begin to explore the life-cycles of both the butterfly and hen, in preparation for some very special visitors arriving in our classroom very soon! We will continue to think about holidays past and present and also about the theme of forgiving.

Our Rhyme of the Week will be ‘Ten in the Bed’

Preparations will soon be underway for Sports’ Day and we will begin to practise all of our different races. More information will follow soon.
