Reception have a busy week ahead learning all about the story of ‘Rosie’s Walk’ by Pat Hutchins – our author of the term. The children will be learning the story by heart and accompanying it with actions. The children will then write the story using their phonic knowledge. The children will also have the opportunity to access a wide range of different activities based on the book, including making their own paper plate characters from the story and retelling the tale in the correct sequence using small world props. We will thinking all about time connectives and the ambitious word ‘oblivious’.
In Phonics, we will be learning all about words ending in /s/ and practising our blending and fluent reading skills. We will also be practising writing a variety of words using accurate letter formation. The children will be reading every day, so please ensure that reading folders are in your child’s bag on a daily basis and reading challenge books will be changed on Friday. Please refer to your child’s reading diary for this week’s reading focus.
During our maths sessions, we will be focusing upon accurate counting and making sets of up to 20. We will be be refining our tagging and counting skills, especially with objects that we are not able to move. We will be making our own counting wands to help with tagging and also exploring the rekenreks. Homework this week is to complete the counting to 20 activity sheet found in your child’s homework folder. Please return completed work by next Monday.
Egg-citing news….to continue our recently introduced ‘Life-cycles’ topic, Reception took delivery of 10 warm hens’ eggs and an incubator on Monday. We are hoping to see some hatching action later this week. Please tune into our live stream via our chick cam! Links have been sent home with the children or you can also access the stream via this website. The chicks will be with us for the next two weeks, allowing us to closely observe and learn all about this fascinating topic. We will also be receiving some new visitors very soon….watch this space!
Our rhyme of the week is ‘One, two, Buckle my Shoe’. Please practise this at home with your child.
We are currently in the process of organising a family activity session for July. Our current Reception children will be able to invite a family member into the classrooms to share their learning. Letters will be sent home very soon, so please keep a look out in your child’s bag!
Many thanks for your support as always,
The Reception Team
