During the next two weeks, the children in YR will be continuing to learn all about life-cycles and ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’. Our class caterpillars have been devouring their food and have now travelled to the top of their containers to make their chrysalises. We will be placing them into our nets soon and will be eagerly awaiting the emergence of some beautiful butterflies! We are all very excited!
The children will be sequencing the story of ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’, writing an imitation of the story using their phonic knowledge, labelling pictures from the story, creating a variety of caterpillar and butterfly inspired art work and using small world props to retell the story in the correct order.
During our phonics sessions, we will be reviewing both Phase 3 and 4 sounds, practising our reading with fluency and also writing sentences focusing on accurate letter formation and orientation.
Our Rhyme of the week will be ‘Hush Little Baby’ and then following on from this, we will be reviewing all of the Nursery Rhymes that we have been learning since we began Reception in September!
During maths, we will be consolidating our knowledge of numbers up to 20, subitising small quantities with confidence and using our rekenreks to explore the composition of numbers.
We will be finishing our work on Barnaby Bear -Journeys, Forgiving and drawing our life-cycles work to a conclusion.
The Children will be having a Very Hungry Caterpillar Party next Wednesday (20th July) to celebrate the end of the year, alongside the emergence and release of our class butterflies. We would like the children to come dressed in their party clothes for this special day. Please look out for a letter containing more details in your child’s bag!
Please send your child into class with a named, strong carrier bag over the next few days, ready for them to bring home a variety of items next week!
Many thanks for your continued support, we can’t believe that we are nearly at the end of the academic year!
