Well, we have nearly reached the end of our very first half term – it has been very busy and the children have done brilliantly! They are definitely ready for a rest through!
This week in YR, we will be learning about ‘Stuck in the Mud’ for one last week. We will be thinking carefully about the structure of the story (beginning, middle and end) and ‘boxing up’ the story into its component parts. We will also be further developing our vocabulary linked to the story. We will begin work on rhyming words after half term through the story ‘Oi Frog!’.
In Phonics, we will be learning three new sounds: e, r and u. We will be continuing to practise blending when reading cvc words and simple captions. We will also be segmenting words to write them down using our grapheme charts to support us. We will be training our brains to read the high frequency words: to, into, go, got.
Our Rhyme of the Week is: Three Blind Mice
In Maths Mastery, we will be thinking about the number 5. We will meet the new Numberling, think about representing 5 in different ways, play Halloween bingo with 1-5 and counting forwards to 10 and backwards to 0. We will also be practising our counting skills to ensure that we are only counting each object once! The children will also be taking part in lots of Halloween themed activities linked to all areas of the curriculum.
Please remember to send in your child’s reading folder and contents on a daily basis and to check your child’s homework folder on a Wednesday and return it again on a Monday!
Many thanks for your continued support and we wish you a very happy half term. We will look forward to welcoming the children back in November!
