Dear Parents,
Welcome to Little Sutton Primary School. We hope you enjoyed the summer holidays and we look forward to working with you and your child this year.
These curriculum notes are intended to give you an idea of the topics your child will be studying during the Autumn term. We have also written a reminder with regards to dinner money, medication and equipment needed in school. Details with regards to homework are also included.
We hope that these notes will enable you to support your child with the work they are carrying out at school by providing them with opportunities to extend their knowledge of the subjects. We would also appreciate you supporting them to complete homework to a high standard and return it on time as well as ensuring they have all the equipment they will need.
Below is an overview of all the subjects and topics your child will be covering in the Autumn term.
Communication, Language and Literacy
Simple book terms, listening skills, making predictions using clues

Recognising single letter phonemes & digraphs in initial, medial & final position
Identifying and extending rhyming strings
Effective pencil grip, pencil control, writing names and accurate letter formation

Counting forwards and backwards to/from 20, numeral recognition, counting one to one, subitising

Equipment required
PE kit in bag – everything labelled please
Water bottles (please do not place water bottles inside book bags)
Book bags containing reading folder/words to learn every day
Homework
To read and discuss reading books, including Reading Challenge books
To complete homework activity sent out in Homework folder on a weekly basis (this will not start immediately)
To learn key words sent home on a weekly basis
Dinner /Trip money etc.
Dinners for Reception children are available free under the Government’s Universal Infants Free School Meals initiative. Payment for trips etc. should be made through ParentPay wherever possible, please see the office for more information about ParentPay. If you do not have access to ParentPay please send correct amount by cheque or cash in a named envelope.
Medication
Please ensure that inhalers and/or relevant medicines are in school and in date.
Class information
On a Monday afternoon while the Reception staff use time for planning, preparation and assessment the children will enjoy Dance and Creative Activities.
